What is ‘PHI’ Lift?

Skin being the external most barrier of our body is at the mercy of many extrinsic as well as intrinsic factors such as sun, environment, stress, and personal habits. Skin aging is a part of the natural “Ageing-mosaic” but ‘the act of aging gracefully’ doesn’t hold true anymore. The new vibe is how to get rid of the ageing signs. We can help you to radically reverse the signs of ageing in a matter of few hours and sometimes even minutes. The anti-aging treatments and techniques can be both non-surgical and surgical and they will leave you with a healthy, smooth, younger, brighter, blemish-free and taut skin.

Anti-ageing techniques and treatments are a step-by step process, which comprise of various methods that target skin bio-revitalization and rejuvenation, augmentation and restoration of each skin layer individually. Sun protection and proper intake of supplements such as Vitamins, Proteins, Minerals, Antioxidants etc. along with plenty of water hold the key to a healthy and radiant skin.

There are various treatments available in the form of applications and massages, most of which intend to ‘resurface’ the epidermis i.e. they remove the damaged epidermis and replace the tissue with remodeled skin layers. Since they only work superficially, there will be limited improvement in the droopiness of facial tissues which can only be rejuvenated by surgical procedures or aggressive non surgical facelift procedures.

‘The Phi Lift’ is the brainchild of Dr. Mohan Thomas and his team to help Indian patients who want a rejuvenation without the downtime of a surgical facelift. It is important that planning of the procedure is undertaken with the same meticulousness as a surgical facelift. Only an artist as a surgeon can identify the subtle signs of aging and the vectors along which the tissues have drooped. Use of FDA approved products along with all possible safety standards preferably in an OT setup are a requirement to achieve the best results. ‘The Phi Lift’ can also be called as a ‘Five day Lift’ as the maximum downtime is usually 5 days.

‘The Phi Lift’- the ‘most powerful non surgical facelift’ constitutes the following 5 R’s- Everyone does not require all the stages.

1. Resorb

2. Reposition

3. Revolumize

4. Relax

5. Resurface

Aging causes reposition of the normal fat pockets which along with weight gain looks like fat deposits in the cheeks, below the chin and the jowls look prominent. These do not disappear inspite of weight loss and remain prominent even if the tissues are pulled as part of a surgical facelift. The best way to non-surgically address these localized fat pockets is by Injection Lipolysis. Gradual reduction of the fat will prevent any increase in skin laxicity due to volume loss. Lipolysis injections help to get rid of the stubborn fat on the face by dissolving fat in the targeted area. It is used to treat areas such as double chin and prominent cheeks. Multiple sessions may be required every 4-6 weeks apart.

Aging, repeated weight loss and sun damage causes laxicity in the facial skin. This causes drooping of the eye brows, cheek fat pads causing prominent lines around the nose and mouth and jowls and neck skin looseness causing prominent neck bands and leading to the formation of nasolabial folds (the folds from the corners of the nose to the mouth), oral commissures (the folds just beneath the corners of the mouth), and then jowls (the skin that sags beneath the jawline). This leads to a more square appearance to the face. For years surgical Face and neck lift was the only way to rejuvenate these areas but ‘The Phi Lift’ can provide similar results with little or no down time. Use of barbed threads as part of ‘The Phi Lift’ helps to reduce sagging around the cheeks, jawline, and neck. Special threads such as PDO threads are used to hold skin and facial tissue in place. These generally produce noticeable results almost immediately and the results may last upto a year. This is undertaken as a walk-in and walk-out procedure with minimal or no downtime. Further improvements can be achieved by adding more threads as and when there is skin laxicity.

As we age, the natural collagen and elastin in the skin lessens, as cells lose their ability to produce more of their youthful component. The skin becomes dryer, thinner and less able to fix itself. The areas that lose volume include; the cheeks, the eyebrow, and the lips. As the cheeks sag and lose volume, they descend from their usual high position in the face near the eyes, to a lower position. By lifting and smoothing targeted folds and wrinkles by using threads there may still be residual areas of volume loss where adding subtle volume is important. Dermal fillers as volume replacement through injections can make a difference to a person’s appearance, giving them a fresher and fuller look. US FDA approved Fillers are usually used after the threads as part of ‘The Phi Lift’ and they last for 12-18 months.

Repeated animation of the facial muscles can present prominent lines around the eyes and forehead. These are due to repeated expressions causing lines of animation. Botox (Botulinum toxin) injections reduces the visible aging changes by targeting the dynamic facial lines and wrinkles. It is used in the treatment of exaggerated frown lines, glabellar lines or crow’s feet, prominent neck bands. These injections need to be repeated every 3-4 months.

The cells of the skin surface are constantly being replaced by younger cells from the deeper surface of the skin. As we grow older the dead skin cells accumulate and cause aging of the skin. Skin ablative procedures are used to replace the superficial skin cells with healthy new skin cells. This is achieved by the use of Chemical Peels, Microdermabrasion or LASER resurfacing. Regular use keeps the skin looking baby fresh and soft reducing the fine lines and solar spots.

Few or all of the above steps may be needed for the most prominent facelift outcome. ‘The Phi Lift’ can be redone after 12-18 months depending on the aging pattern. A surgical facelift can be undertaken once the result of ‘The Phi Lift’ has disappeared.
